I often read articles about hair loss supplements and time and time again one particular supplement is recommended for hair loss. But the sad thing is that this supplement actually increases the speed of your hair loss rather than stop it…

Supplements are often sold to hair loss sufferers because they offer a convenient way to reduce hair loss. Unfortunately not all these supplements are good for those suffering from hair loss. The best example is flaxseed oil.

Flaxseed oil is often recommended for hair loss because it contains lignans. However, these lignans cause the production of estrogen. Now it is estrogen, not testosterone that causes the production of DHT! This is contrary to the popular myth that DHT is caused by too much testosterone, it really isn’t.

So whatever theoretical benefits lignans have for hair loss sufferers, they just don’t compare to the ACTUAL damage they cause by producing estrogen (and DHT.) Really, if you suffer from hair loss DO NOT TAKE FLAXSEED OIL OR FLAX, of any kind. If you take flaxseed oil for omega oils then instead use fish oil (or hemp seed oil if you are a vegetarian.) Both fish oil and hemp seed oil are beneficial for hair loss sufferers.

Whilst avoiding flaxseed oil and flax is a good thing to do to stop the increase in speed of your hair loss, it won’t reduce your hair loss at it’s normal speed off loss. To do that you need to get rid of the DHT that is lodged in your scalp and causing your hair loss right now. Many DHT removing agents are expensive whereas cheaper options are available, and do the same job.
